The MG5, as a classic model under the MG brand, has been well-received since its launch on March 8, 2012. The first-generation MG5 was a hatchback sports car primarily focused on handling performance, targeting young consumers. The 2026 model retains the classic design of the 2021 version, with no major adjustments to its exterior—only some additional features in terms of configuration. At the rear, the MG5 continues the through-type taillight design commonly used in the Chinese market, offering strong recognition and a visually distinctive appeal. Especially when paired with red paint, it can be described as a fluid sports sculpture.
In terms of power, the current MG5 offers multiple engine configurations, including a 1.5L and a 1.5T engine, paired with an 8-speed CVT and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, respectively. Although we are in an era of new energy where horsepower is often excessive, this car still delivers an excellent driving and handling experience. In particular, these two transmissions, tuned by SAIC Motor, provide quick and smooth shifting, offering drivers a pleasant driving experience.
When it comes to interior features, the MG5 also excels. While it may lack some technological flair by today’s standards, in the under-100,000 yuan price range, it offers plenty of functionality. The higher-end models are equipped with a液晶显示屏 (liquid crystal display) on the center console, integrating navigation, multimedia entertainment, driving information, and other functions.
Regarding the MG5’s price, the actual selling price of the new model in China falls within the 60,000 to 90,000 yuan range. In 2024 alone, YL Automobile exported over 400 units to overseas markets, including Jordan, the UAE, Nigeria, and other countries. The best-selling model has a guide price of 85,900 yuan and supports re-installation of an English-language infotainment system.
